BackStorgage: Airbnb-Style Storage Marketplace App
A Los Angeles real estate investor came to Space-O Technologies with an idea drawn from his own industry. He wanted a self-storage marketplace that let homeowners rent out unused space to neighbors who needed it. Storgage is the mobile application we built to do exactly that. Owners list spare space with photos, size, access type, and rent, then freeze availability whenever they choose. Tenants search nearby listings, send counter offers when rent runs high, and set alerts for areas they are watching. The app launched on the Apple App Store and Google Play for users across the USA and Canada.

About Storgage
Storgage is a custom mobile application that helps people find nearby space to store their belongings. It serves two audiences at once. Some users need somewhere to keep their things, and others have a vacant room, garage, or shed to rent out.
Owners list a property with title, description, location, images, and rent. They set storage type, access type, size, and availability date. When they need the space back, they freeze the listing for as long as required rather than deleting it.
Tenants browse available properties in their area and negotiate directly. Counter offers let them respond when a rent figure feels too high. Custom alerts notify them the moment space becomes available in an area they have selected.
How We Built the Self-Storage Marketplace App
The client knew his requirements precisely and gave detailed specifications from the outset. Our team ran market research on comparable applications and mapped the features that mattered most for a two-sided storage marketplace.
Dual-Role Account Architecture
Requirement:
The client wanted users to move between tenant and owner roles easily. Running two interfaces from one account raised database and authentication problems.
Solution:
We handled role switching inside account management, so a single login serves both interfaces without confusion. The harder part was the data layer. Storing one user’s records across two roles risked clashes at scale, so we designed a database structure that holds those relationships cleanly as user numbers grow into the thousands and beyond.
Property Listing and Availability Control
Requirement:
Owners needed to publish a storage space quickly and pause it when the space was no longer free.
Solution:
Listing creation captures property title, description, rent, location, images, storage type, access type, size, and availability date. Owners complete it in minutes. A freeze control then suspends availability for any chosen period, which lets owners keep a listing live in the system while removing it from tenant search results.
Search, Filters, and Custom Alerts
Requirement:
Tenants needed to find suitable space nearby, and to know when new space appeared in areas they cared about.
Solution:
Search with applied filters surfaces available properties in a tenant’s chosen area. Custom alerts were the client’s priority feature, so we built them to monitor a selected area and push a notification the moment a matching property is listed. Tenants no longer need to check the app repeatedly.
Counter Offers and Booking Requests
Requirement:
Storage rent varies widely, and fixed pricing would have left tenants with no way to respond to an asking price.
Solution:
Tenants send a counter offer directly against a listing when the stated rent seems high. Owners review and respond. Booking requests then formalize the arrangement once both sides agree, moving the deal from negotiation into a tracked contract.
In-App Chat With Conversation Search
Requirement:
Owners and tenants had to discuss property details and finalize terms without leaving the application.
Solution:
Chat connects both sides directly, carrying counter offers and general conversation about the deal. Owners managing several listings accumulate many threads, so we added conversation search. Finding a specific tenant discussion takes a query rather than scrolling through the chat dashboard.
Contracts, Payments, and Earnings Reports
Requirement:
Owners needed visibility into agreement status and income, with payment handled inside the app.
Solution:
The contracts view shows which agreements are ongoing, approved, or rejected. Stripe handles payment processing between the two parties. An earnings report totals income from rented properties, with weekly, monthly, and yearly filters that let owners track performance across the year.
