Snag: Construction Site Inspection App

A site inspection traditionally means handwritten notes and a separate camera. Assembling the report then takes hours back at the office. Our Canadian client wanted that collapsed into one pass on site. Space-O Technologies built Snag to do exactly that. An inspector photographs a defect and records the details. Drawing on the image marks the exact problem, and the issue goes straight to the person responsible. A professional report compiles automatically and is shared by email minutes after the walk ends. The application covers audits, punch lists, snagging, site walks, and checklists on iOS and web.

About the Snag construction inspection app

About the Snag Inspection App

Snag replaces clipboards, cameras, and office paperwork with one tool an inspector carries on site. Everything happens the moment a defect is found. Nothing waits for a write-up afterward.

The workflow covers the full inspection cycle. Audits, punch lists, snagging, site walks, and checklists all run inside the same structure. Teams stop maintaining separate processes for work that is fundamentally the same.

Each issue carries a photo, written detail, annotation marking the problem, and an assigned owner. Reports compile from that data automatically and share without paper. Stakeholders see the same information the inspector recorded on site.

How We Built the Construction Inspection App

The engagement covered UI/UX design, native iOS development, web development, and quality assurance. Field software faces one hard test. Will an inspector holding a phone one-handed on a live site actually use it? Every interaction had to survive that condition.

Site Project Management

Requirement:

Inspectors run several jobs at once. Each audit needed its own container rather than one continuous list of issues.

Solution:

Users create a project per site. All related issues, reports, and checklists group beneath it. Several projects run in parallel without records mixing between them. An inspector covering several sites in a day opens one project. Only the records for that location appear.

Photo Capture and Issue Recording

Requirement:

Documenting a defect had to be as fast as pointing a phone at it. Anything slower gets skipped under time pressure.

Solution:

Users photograph an issue, add the inspection details, and save it to the project. There is no separate camera, no transcription afterward, and no matching photos to notes later. Speed at this step decides whether the whole system gets used properly.

Photo Annotation and Markup

Requirement:

A photograph alone rarely shows what is wrong. A wall shot looks like a wall until someone points at the crack.

Solution:

We built image annotation and a markup tool for exactly this. Inspectors draw directly on a photo to highlight the defect. The person receiving the report sees precisely what was flagged. Ambiguity in a defect record causes return visits, which is what the client wanted to eliminate.

Issue Assignment and Resolution Tracking

Requirement:

Spotting a defect achieves nothing on its own. A named person has to own it, and progress has to be visible.

Solution:

Every issue is assigned to the responsible person and tracked through to resolution. Site managers see what is outstanding and who holds it. This separates an inspection record from a working punch list. The second one drives action rather than documenting a moment.

Automated Report Generation and Sharing

Requirement:

The client wanted professional paperless reports produced and shared on site, not compiled later at an office.

Solution:

Report generation pulls project details, photos, and issues into a clean inspection report. Sharing runs by email directly from the app. The gap between finding a defect and the right person reading about it drops from days to minutes.

Team Collaboration and Visibility

Requirement:

Inspection quality depends on everyone working from the same information. Separate copies at different stages create gaps.

Solution:

Inspectors share monitoring views with team members and stakeholders. Project status stays visible to everyone involved. Contractors, subcontractors, and clients all see the same record. Shared visibility removes disputes over what was actually found.
