SkillHub is a Canadian professional networking platform that connects job seekers, students, and newcomers with service providers and mentors. The platform focuses on purposeful career connections rather than broad social feeds. Users receive personalized job postings, follow profiles that matter to them, and message providers directly.

Unlike general-purpose networks, SkillHub is built around specific professional needs. Service providers publish opportunities in minutes and reach candidates who match their requirements. Job seekers filter listings, save relevant providers, and act on alerts before opportunities close.

The platform also supports team-based accounts. Service providers create dedicated pages, invite team members, and manage posts collaboratively. Activity tracking gives every user a clear record of interactions, applications, and engagement across the platform.

How We Built a Scalable Professional Networking Platform

The client partnered with Space-O Technologies to build a networking platform that supports job postings, service listings, real-time messaging, media-rich content, and multilingual search from a single system. To handle dynamic user loads, continuous deployments, and heavy media processing, our team designed and developed core systems.

SEO-Ready Frontend With Dynamic Social Rendering

Requirement:

The platform needed job and service listings to surface correctly in search results and preview accurately when shared on social channels.

Solution:

We used Node.js and React.js to dynamically generate Open Graph meta tags for every listing and profile page. Each post renders with the correct title, description, and image when shared externally. Dynamic card generation delivers real-time feed updates without full-page reloads, so users see new opportunities the moment they are published.

Microservice Backend Architecture

Requirement:

The client required a backend that could scale individual features independently while keeping data consistent across job postings, profiles, messaging, and notifications.

Solution:

Our team built a microservice architecture using NestJS and MongoDB, with RabbitMQ handling asynchronous communication between services. Each service owns its own domain logic and scales on its own. Message queuing keeps notifications, activity logs, and feed updates in sync without blocking user-facing requests during traffic spikes.

Kubernetes Deployment and Autoscaling Infrastructure

Requirement:

The platform needed continuous releases with minimal downtime, plus the ability to absorb unpredictable swings in concurrent users.

Solution:

We containerized the application with Docker, stored images in Amazon ECR, and deployed through Kubernetes on Amazon EKS using Helm. Horizontal Pod Autoscaler and Cluster Autoscaler adjust capacity automatically as demand shifts. Kubernetes self-healing restarts failed pods without manual intervention, keeping the platform available during deployments and traffic surges.

Real-Time Messaging and Notification System

Requirement:

Job seekers and service providers needed to connect instantly, without email delays or third-party messaging tools.

Solution:

We implemented WebSocket-based messaging that supports one-to-one conversations, delivery states, and live presence. Personalized notifications alert users to new job postings, profile activity, and replies as they happen. RabbitMQ routes notification events across services, so alerts stay reliable even when message volume rises sharply.

Media Processing and Delivery Pipeline

Requirement:

Large images and video uploads slowed the platform and played inconsistently across browsers and devices.

Solution:

We built a serverless media pipeline using AWS Lambda for background image compression and video format conversion, including AVI to MP4. Processing happens outside the request cycle, so uploads never block the interface. The result is faster page loads, lower storage costs, and consistent video playback across desktop and mobile browsers.

Content Editor and Multilingual Search Layer

Requirement:

Users needed richer posting tools, and the platform had to serve a linguistically diverse Canadian audience.

Solution:

We customized CK-Editor with video previews, emoji support, and formatting controls suited to job and service listings. Language detection through Langdetect identifies the language of posted content automatically. Search and recommendations then surface opportunities that match each user’s language preference alongside their stated professional interests.
