Tablet computing is going to be the next big thing in the year 2013. And if you are wondering how big then below mentioned statistics will not only amaze you but will help gain the useful insight of the mobile app market based on which you can plan, project and proceed with your mobile app development.

Why Should You Be Developing iPad Apps in 2013?

So here is the statistics:

  1. International Data Corporation (IDC) says that 49.2 million tablet units have been shipped in the first quarter of 2013 exceeding the entire first half of the year 2012. It also reports that Apple’s iPad has the highest share which is 39.6% with 19.5 million shipments.Further, Tom Mainelli, Research Director, Tablets at IDC hints about the growing demand for iPad mini. 2. Even Gartner confirms the same trend by predicting the yearly tablet shipments’ figure to reach to an approximate of 201.8 million. The interesting thing to notice is that Gartner’s report also coincides with that of IDC’s on augmented demand for iPad Mini, as per which sales of the iPad Mini already represented 60% of total iOS tablet sales in the 1st quarter of 2013. 3. ABI Research estimates mobile app market to stand around $27 billion with tablet revenues quickly catching and matching with smartphones. It also predicts that tablet app revenues will surpass smarphone app sales by 2017 with bigger screen size and better user experience for gaming and reading being the primary drivers for such a growth. Needless to say that developing iPad apps makes all sense in order to target masses and flourish in the mobile app market. One can even consider iPad Mini app development since the demand for the small tablet has already picked up.

You should also develop and create iPad apps because “tablet-first strategy” has already worked well for many developers like Supercell. In fact, as per Supercell CEO, Ilkka Paananena, shifting to a “tablet-first” business model earlier in 2012 earned them over $500,000 a day from just two mobile releases.
