Snapchat had 50% less video traffic a year ago, which was about 4 billion video views a day in April last year. Now, the number has grown to 6 billion in November and then 8 billion in February, competing Facebook’s latest video numbers.
Around 1/3 of Snapchat’s daily users are creating “Stories” that broadcast videos and photos from their lives that last for 24 hours. You just have to swipe down on your friend’s video to minimize. However, you don’t have to worry, as you can easily tap to enter full-screen again. Tap ‘Video icon’ to stop video chatting with the friend.
So, wanna tell to your friend something, but he/she isn’t available? You don’t have to worry. Just leave a video note by clicking and holding on the ‘video icon’. When user lifts his/her finger, the note will send. Moreover, if he/she can also click the ‘cancel icon’ to cancel the video note.
Launched under the name Picaboo, Snapchat becomes more popular by November 2012, as number of sharing photos had reached more than one billion on the app.
In May 2014, Snapchat’s users were sending 700 million photos and videos per day while new “Snapchat Stories” content was being seen 500 million times by users per day. There are many people using it and find themselves crazy about Snapchat.
Investors are thinking to sell adverts like Twitter and Facebook, as Snapchat has a potential to ‘monetise’ content. Over 50% of the users, aged between 13 and 17, are highly desired by the marketers.
Snapchat got its first funding in April 2012 of $485,000 (£326,000). After that, 6 more rounds of funding followed over the next three years with investors, including General Catalyst Partners, venture capital firms SV Angel, Benchmark, and Institutional Venture Partners.
The first paid advertisement of Snapchat was a 20-second movie trailer for the horror film Ouija. It was shown to the users on 19 October 2014. The reason behind to show paid advertisement was Snapchat need money.

Rumors are in the air that Snapchat is planning to launch a Google Glass-style competitor and thus, it is hiring more people for this project. The two hardware specialists from action camera maker GoPro like a mechanical engineer and the technical recruiter for Google’s Project Aura, the people worked for Google Glass.
Snapchat is “serious” about to create a hardware play, although no details are shared about the specific product. The news of Google glass-style competitor came to light in March when CNET highlighted string of some popular hardware hire like Lauryn Morries, an eyewear designer and an ex-employee, who listed his experience as working on highly miniaturized and low power electronics.
If Snapchat could be working on a Google Glass-like device, that would give a major expansion for the social networking startup that currently valued at over $18 billion. Moreover, Snapchat has purchased Vergence Labs, a company specialized in a smart-glasses products that recorded video of what you see, back in 2014.
