“On an average, people miss about 70 percent of the posts in their Instagram feed,” stated Mr. Systrom, Instagram Co-founder.
How we forget that users are looking for new version of the application? Playing with app features gained more users and thus, Instagram is switching its feed from chronological to display best posts first.
As the average Instagram users miss 70% of what’s in their feed, including photos with more likes, posts that are shared by their best friends, Instagram announced that it will start rearranging the post’s order within its feed.

Instagram will order posts “based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post” instead of strictly reverse chronological.
The testing process will start slowly, first, you find that “all the posts will still be there, just in a different order.” However, low-quality posts might be filtered out completely. That simply means if you don’t check your feed until the next morning, but a friend whose photos you usually ‘Like’, posted something awe-inspiring the night before, it could look at the top of the feed though it is few hours old. This is basically how Facebook’s feed works and how Twitter reconfigured its feed in recent times.

The relevancy-optimized Instagram feed ensures users that they won’t miss the content though they don’t check it all the time. It enables them to follow more account without worrying about to search their favorites. Best of all, it keeps users to connect with their international friends, who might post while you are sleeping.
Remixing the feed will make Instagram less useful, as the recent posts won’t necessarily be on top at the same time. Moreover, users have to create their posts look good on an algorithm or their posts could be de-prioritized.
Here, the main disadvantage is that brands might lose the reach of a previously reliable marketing channel, the similar way they did with Facebook pages. Filtered feeds gather more attention from users, as there are many posts that force users to close an application and move towards another task. At this point, Instagram is fixed in people’s lives that they are uncertain to trench it over this change.
As twitter and Instagram are moving to algorithmically sorted feeds, getting it on the social media will become more of a competition than ever.
